With influences like Sepultura, Dying Fetus, and Suffocation, it's no surprise that Meatslab's sound is heavy hitting and raw. Their live shows are a musical bombination, an assault on the senses. Russian Paul, on bass executes complicated riffs like it's absolutely nothing, a piece of cake. Drummer Sean brings to mind a wild animal, arms everywhere and hair flying. Drew, the voice of Meatslab, credits Phil Anselmo as a major influence, which is apparent in his performance as he belts out lyrics with vein popping aggression and energy to spare. Matt, on guitar, pays tribute to metal long forgotten with solid guitar solos. Meatslab pays homage to a genre seen less and less these days, staying close to their thrash roots. With their brutal sound, Meatslab is a breath of fresh air, something that stands out from cookie-cutter bands that just follow the trends. Meatslab's story starts the way most bands do; just a couple of kids killing some time. Matt, then on bass, and Sean would meet up and jam in the basement of Sean's Redwood City home while the two were still in high school in 2002. In 2003, they started to take their music a bit more seriously and eventually recruited a singer and guitarist. Drew stayed on as the singer, but soon Matt ended up switching to guitar since his guitar skills far surpassed his bass skills. Soon, Russian Paul took over on bass. Though a fan of thrash-metal, Russian's previous experience were more along the lines of punk, often jamming with various Bay Area punk bands. However, his unique style proved to be the final ingredient. Meatslab is born. After a short hiatus in 2004, Meatslab reformed in early 2005, scrapping old material, re-writing a few things, and coming up with new sounds. Meatslab managed to record their debut album Slaughter of the Human Pig in between their busy show schedule, including such well-known venues as San Francisco's The Pound and the now-closed Gaslighter in Campbell, Ca in 2006. Meatslab is back with raw merciless thrash, ready to blow your fucking minds. Meatslab is here to remind you that old-school metal lives on and that it will never die. |
